messing around with Mother Nature

Hi everybody! Here are some more hybrid designs, this time a turtle and a hippo. I am trying to work on my digital painting skills, and find a technique and style that I like, I'm trying to work on using values rather than "filling the lines"... still a long way to go. Anyway, while coloring, these two hippo-turtles moved somehow from my cartoony kingdom to the darker side of concept design, looking a bit to monstrous to me, but... oh well, it's all part of the process.

Really, these are looking amazing! Your focus on value already puts these a notch ahead of your girabbits. Man... I need to draw more!

Hey great stuff! They're both really awesome designs and have strong poses. I agree with Betsy that your approach with value really improves the overall product! Aaron would be proud to see your focus on the shadow masses, very accurate. I really like the plain textured backgrounds. I can't really find anything to give advice on... maybe having one area being darker than any other and one spot being the ultimate highlight like Aaron talks about. I can't wait to start doing digital work!
